Something about
Almost all
types of RNA molecules contain 2'-O-methylnucleotides: tRNA, snRNA, small
nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) and rRNA.
tRNAs contain the highest number
of modified nucleotides of all cellular RNAs
The protein is shown in surface
representation and colored according to the distribution of the electrostatic
potential (positive, negative).
tRNA and the methyl group donor AdoMet is shown in the wireframe representation.
Superposition of the protein and the ligand was guided by the
structure of a related 2'-O-MTase, the VP39 protein of vaccinia virus
complexed with the target RNA (Hodel et al., 1998 Mol. Cell 1:443-437).
In the docked model, the core structural elements and the catalytic residues
of Trm7p were superimposed onto the corresponding elements in VP39 and
guanine-34 of tRNA(Phe) was superimposed onto coordinates of the target
guanine in VP39-mRNA complex.
