Almost all
types of RNA molecules contain 2'-O-methylnucleotides: tRNA, snRNA, small
nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) and rRNA.
tRNAs contain the highest number
of modified nucleotides of all cellular RNAs
The surface is colored according to the conservation score, calculated
based on comparison of the E.coli MTase RrmJ (Bugl et al., Mol Cell. 2000
6:349-360) and its three homologs from yeast: Trm7p , Spb1 and Ygl136c/Mrm2.
Blue color indicates invariant residues,
yellow color indicates variable residues.
The target ribose binding/catalytic residues, as well as the residues
making contacts to the methionine and ribose moiety of AdoMet are perfectly
conserved.
