The course of the first mains with river water for Warsaw, designed by H. Marconi, led from the intake by Karowa Street. The water was pumped to a water reservoir located on an artificial rise in the Saxon Gardens, built on the model of the Temple of Vesta in Tivola. From there it flowed by gravitation into pipes that carried it around the city. Today the intake no longer exists, and Marconi's watermains structures (the filters, and pumping station) were adapted by Lindley into a sewer pumping station, which was first called Warszawa,' and presently Powiśle.' It pumps sewage from the lower terrace of Warsaw to the higher, so it can reach the Bielański collector.
